In light with the current pandemic we are faced with employers are expected to ensure that the spread of Covid-19 is minimised and there are stringent standards set by the government that companies required to comply with and there is a lack of expertise in implementing the strategies and plan to ensure compliance.

Companies are set to resume production amidst this challenging period. Corona virus is yet to be listed as a hazardous biological agent however the situation has been declared a national disaster. The declaration requires measures to be taken to address the infections at the workplace. Those industries that where producing, processing, using, handling, storing or transporting hazardous biological agent might be better prepared for the current situation.

Unfortunately, it is a new space for any other industry. This microorganism falls within subdivision 4, where the virus can cause severe disease, spread to the community and prophylaxis or vaccine is not available. Government has placed protocols to be followed to curb the incident within the workplace, however as indicated earlier this is unchartered territories. Therefore, extreme measures are required especially that a company with an infection is required to close. Government is yet to issue the level of closure, whether
temporarily (re-open after disinfection and being cleared for safety) or permanently till moving to the next level of lockdown.
